Fancy BROWN Yellow Eye Clean Elongated Octagon Brilliant Cut DIAMOND Ring 2.5 Carat Tdw Platinum Hidden Halo Engagement Solitaire

If you follow along with me at MHA, you know I typically concentrate on carrying antique pieces with old cut stones. But this month I am bringing out a few pre-owned to vintage pieces that I felt were still unique and exceptional. Each of them offering certain elements that really spoke to me, which I thought would be fun to bring to the shop. : )
In the case of this ring, it's the fabulous color and unique cut to the nice sized 2.25 carat (approx) center diamond, which also possesses an excellent clarity. I love diamonds with hues and this one is a fancy brown yellow diamond that is eye clean and fiery, a special stone.
Next is the cut, appearing on the hand almost as a cushioned oval but on further inspection, we see it is actually an elongated octagonal brilliant cut. It has clipped corners and an extra wide polished girdle with triangular pavilion facets leading to the pointed culet giving it a starburst pattern when looking through the stone. So while the outline is similar in shape to a radiant cut, this stone has different faceting as it is not radiant cut nor step cut. I do not remove my stones from their settings and my items do well without paperwork but GIA would label this one a "Cut-Cornered Rectangular Modified Brilliant".
Combining the cut and color makes it a unique, interesting and beautiful featured stone. I photographed it next to a radiant cut stone so you can see the difference in faceting with the additional photos on my website.
The setting to this preowned ring is platinum with small brilliant and single cut diamonds at each shoulder and along the base of the setting below the center stone. It makes a little hidden halo of sparkle underneath the diamond when you study it at eye level. Little engraved details are added to the vertical edges of the ring shoulders so this one is really gorgeous at all angles.
It is fun to see the color of the stone and how it varies between lighting conditions, appearing more fancy light brown in ambient light and lighting up with the richer brown golden yellow hues in direct light.
I found this one in Switzerland, it is stamped inside with a maker's hallmark and PT 950 for platinum.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and the pictures can make it difficult to see scale. Antique box is not included.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size 6, just slightly over.
The center diamond is about 9.3mm by 6.8mm by 3.8mm with an extra thick polished girdle. Around 2 1/4 carat to 2 1/2 carat. I wouldn't remove it from the setting for an exact measurement and with such a unique cut, there are no exact calculators so please see the mm measurements. There are 20 additional diamonds at the shoulders and in the hidden halo measuring about 1.5mm each give or take. This adds about another .3 carat.
The piece weighs 3.35 grams. It stands 5.2mm off the finger.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
As mentioned, my items do very well without paperwork so I have not sent the stone for certification but always provide as much detail as possible with measurements, condition notes and many extra photos (see website) to capture it true to life in various lighting conditions, which can be translated to grading scales if desired.
Not even a nibble to the diamond. It is completely eye clean with no detectible inclusions even under strong magnification (VVS). Some frostiness (and a few slightly milky) to the very small single and brilliant cuts in the hidden halo but they are so small this is not really eye visible unless studying it from the side under magnification. A bit of wear to the corner prongs but they are wide and overlap the clipped corners to protect them.
