Eye Clean 2.3 Carat Old Mine Cut DIAMOND Antique Stone 18k Gold Vintage Unisex Gypsy Ring Solitaire Chunky Wide Band

ABOUT:

One of my brightest and best from my inventory sourcing trips!  If I recall, it's one of the bigger solitaire antique stones I've had in the shop to date as well, weighing in over 2.3 carats.

This one stopped me in my tracks when I saw it in the shop window in Barcelona, Spain.  I knew I was going to do all I could to acquire it and that feeling grew exponentially when I looked at the stone under the loop to find that it is Crystal Clear.

Quite amazing to find on what to me is quite a whopper.  The antique old mine cut diamond is in a classic and timeless vintage gypsy setting, encased in a slightly raised bezel. Glowing gold with slightly domed shoulders, but remaining low profile and comfortable to wear, all with a lovely drama and substantial footprint. These settings with the flush mounted diamond are always favorable as they won't catch on clothing.

This ring has other stories to tell as well.  Turning it over and looking inside the ring face you can see two perfectly circular impressions, indicating that it may have been a template for a three stone ring but they decided to go with the big one in the center alone.  This is not visible when wearing the piece, but just an interesting part of its story and fabrication. The antique diamond is of course the star of the show, lovely in color with the slightest warmth in some conditions, but facing up quite bright and always clear.

It's a beautiful stone with a timeless and on trend setting to match. No hallmarks remain but sold to me as 18k which is the standard there and tested with acid test and Kee test to confirm.

These diamond bands are always very popular in the shop. This one could be considered unisex as these rings are popular with both men and women. The gypsy ring was incredibly popular during the Victorian era into the early 1900s and its timeless design remains an ever favored and wearable choice for today. It is substantial enough to wear alone but also layers well with other pieces.

Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size 7 3/4 on my mandrel, just slightly under. The ring face 10.2mm north south. It is 5.1mm tall off the finger. It weighs 8.4 grams.

I do not remove my stones from their settings for exact measurements but the diamond is over 2.3 carats. It measures about 8.2mm and it's a chunky cut. This is an estimate as I would not remove it from the setting.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
All antique hand cut diamonds of course have a more limited supply since they are no longer made in this way. There are only so many in existence compared to the millions of carats of modern machine cut diamonds made every year. These have withstood the test of time. This one is crystal clear with a better than most fire. Even under magnification there is little to be found. And no nicks, chips, cracks, frosty spots, etc. As far as the setting, the stone moves in the bezel and it can actually rattle when you shake it aggressively but there are four tiny little bead prongs inside the bezel to secure it in the setting. You should also note that the stone being such a chunky / deep cut, is a bit deeper than the setting so it extends a bit beyond the inside rim of the ring to where the bottom of the stone rests against the finger. You'll see it in the pics. I did not find it uncomfortable to wear because the culet of the stone is open and polished / flat like all old cuts so it's not super pointy or sharp but something to consider as it could rub against the finger depending on how tightly it is worn, etc.

Feel free to request more videos and check out my website for more images as I also have it in some group shots which will help you see the stone comparatively to other antique diamonds.

My items do very well without paperwork so I have not sent the stone for certification and would not want to remove it from the setting to do so, but I always provide as much detail as possible with measurements, condition notes and many extra photos (see website) to capture it true to life in various lighting conditions, which can be translated to grading scales if desired.

Some surface wear to the gold setting which can catch the light due to the smooth mirrored finish of the piece but it has a wonderful buttery glow. It's beautiful.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
